Overview: Perry Videx has provided used machinery throughout the world for over 75 years. They have one of the world's most extensive inventories of used equipment and a worldwide reputation as a supplier of solid, dependable used process equipment. Perry Videx had an
investment in Lotus Notes/Domino yet their website did not offer features such as advanced searching, accessing product data, or the ability to add products to a cart and submit. DCG delivered these features and more!
DCG Solution: Perry Videx has at least 20,000 active products at any given time. DCG built a custom
Lotus Notes/Domino based solution that provided them with a stable hosting environment, an attractive user interface that allows users to easily search for products, drill into product data, and add products to their cart and submit. Traffic and submissions of carts and contact forms increased dramatically.
Image handling for product data on the website was an area that needed to be addressed. Not all products have photos associated with them, but those that do can have many images associated with them. DCG delivered a solution where Perry site owners can attach multiple pictures for a specific product, and designate the "primary image". These are all high resolution pictures that would take too long to load on web pages. DCG developed a
Lotus Notes Java agent that processes photos every night. The program takes any high resolution picture, that has not been processed, and creates 2 additional images by resizing the original. One image is used for the thumbnail display while the other serves as web "full size". Site visitors open a product to see the primary image and associated thumbnails. The site uses an Ajax image gallery that allows users to easily view product pictures.
Perry turned to DCG for the
hosting of their Domino website. The site resides on a server running Lotus Domino on Linux. DCG implemented and administers all aspects of the Domino Hosting environment including replication with Perry Domino Servers, backups and more.
Perry's website has a robust Lotus Notes backend for content management on their website. Site content managers can easily maintain product data, product images, specials and more. Site owners can also view customized website and user activity reports. All site referral information is tracked, including where visitors went, and which users submitted carts. This data allows Perry Videx to easily track return on investment (ROI) for pay-per-click campaigns, referer programs, and banner purchases.
