LAMP is a combination of open source solutions used to deliver robust, database driven web sites and applications. Linux Operating System
Linux is the Operating System Durkan Consulting uses for all of our web servers, regardless of whether they are running a PHP, J2EE or Lotus Domino Application. There are a number of Linux "flavors/versions" out there, we use Redhat Enterprise Linux server. Our servers are pre-emptively patched thus ensuring a high level of security and stability. We choose Linux as the operating system for our hosted servers because it is extremely stable and secure and highly customizable.
Apache Web Server
Apache is the web server that runs on Linux (also runs on a number of other operating systems) and continues to be the most popular HTTP server on the World Wide Web. Apache is developed and maintained by an open community of developers under the auspices of the Apache Software Foundation. Durkan Consulting leverages Apache in LAMP applications and customizes it when needed for the purposes of application performance and search engine optimization.
MySQL Relational Database Management System (RDBMS)
MySQL is the relational database management system (RDBMS) that Durkan Consulting uses as its back-end for LAMP based solutions. Its popularity for use with web applications is closely tied to the popularity of PHP and Ruby on Rails, which are often combined with MySQL. Many high-traffic websites use MySQL for its data storage and logging of user data, including Flickr, Facebook,Wikipedia, Google and YouTube. Durkan Consulting specializes in database design using MySQL.
PHP Scripting
PHP is a scripting language we use for creating robust, dynamic web based applications. Durkan Consulting has the PHP programming skills to develop your dynamic website or web application.
